definitely A red letter day!

Red Letter DayThree Hallmark homes, Ashleigh Court (Wrexham), Church View (Swindon) and Amberley Hall (Kings Lynn) were determined to help beat heart disease recently when it marked National Wear Red Day in aid of the British Heart Foundation.

All three homes held a red-themed coffee morning complete with a red stall, which only sold items that were red, a red cake sale with home-made cakes and treats and a red auction! To top it off everyone raided their wardrobes to make sure they were dressed in red items of clothing and paid £1 for the privilege.

An Activities coordinator, Claire Fisher, at ones of the homes (Amberley Hall) said, “Working with older people who are more prone to heart conditions means that we understand how important it is to support charities like the British Heart Foundation. We all really enjoyed getting dressed up for the day and having fun while raising money for a very worthwhile cause. Luckily red is my colour!” The homes also held extended exercises class for residents, friends and family members to highlight the importance of exercise in keeping a healthy heart.

Just a Few ‘Giving Back’ Highlights from 2009

It was a jam-packed year for Hallmark Healthcare in 2009 and that included our fundraising activities for some amazing causes.

Highlights from the year include Hallmark Healthcare becoming a founding member of the Care Professionals Benevolent Fund (CPBF) alongside other reputable, leading care sector organisations and donating £10,000 in the process. Another £250 was donated to CPBF in support of the festive e-cards they created, which were then used and sent out by Hallmark staff across the group.

As well as efforts within our care homes, Head Office rose to the challenge of frequently raising funds for various worthy causes, this didn’t stop at Christmas as £37 was raised during Christmas lunch and donated to the Alzheimer’s Society. As ever staff were good sports about donning their pyjamas and bringing in teddies from home to raise money for Children in Need earlier in the year and they even got a mention on BBC Essex’s website in the process.

Just some of the thank you letters received include one from the Cardiff Institute for the Blind thanking Hallmark for “generous support” in sponsoring the production of their fundraising CD ‘What Colour is the Wind’ and another from the National Association for Providers of Activities for Older People (NAPA) to say Hallmark’s “support of NAPA has been unstinting and makes a real difference to the work [they] do...Whenever we have dealings with Hallmark your staff are welcoming and kind – symbolic I think of the values you all hold dear – and are a pleasure to work with”.

HALLMARK HEALTHCARE SUPPORTS NEW SINGLE  RELEASED FOR UK BLIND CHARITIES

Hallmark Healthcare has helped to fund a charity single, released to support blind and visually impaired people throughout the UK.

'What Colour is the Wind' - on sale from December 7th - is the debut single of Welsh singer entertainer Mike Doyle, and is a cover of the song  written and originally recorded by British folk and country singer Charlie Landsborough, who took it to number one in Ireland in 1994.

Hallmark has funded the production costs of the record in conjunction with the Cardiff-based Gios Group of restaurants, and will be helping to promote the record throughout its network of residencies.

Avnish Goyal, Managing Director of Hallmark Healthcare said: "This has been a hugely exciting and moving project for us, it ranks as one of the most heartwarming songs I have ever heard, superbly delivered by Mike Doyle who has an incredibly emotive voice.  Visual impairment is a major condition amongst older people and so supporting blind charities in delivering their vital services is also something close to our hearts as a group.  We hope sales of What Colour is the Wind go well and it becomes a huge hit for all concerned."

'What Colour is the Wind' is an emotional Celtic tinged ballad about a young blind girl asking her father about the appearance of the visual world. To support the charities led by Cardiff Institute for the Blind, Charlie Landsborough has signed over his normal rights to the single for Mike Doyle's charity recording.

Speaking on the release of his new record Mike Doyle said: "I have been singing What Colour in my shows all around the World for the past four years and it tugs on the heartstrings of audiences like no other song I have ever known. It is moving and life re-affirming and inspires great affection from so many people, and not just those whose families have been touched by sight-loss."

Rugby legend Gareth Edwards, President of Cardiff Institute for the Blind said: "I have known Mike for many years and his warmth and spirit as well as immense talent as a superb singer and entertainer has endeared him to his fans all over the World.  This shines through in this song and I hope that What Colour Is the Wind will bring him to the attention of an even wider record-buying public.  I would encourage people to dip into their pockets and buy this great record and help us as we raise much needed funds enabling us to deliver support services to visually impaired people in our country."

Mike Doyle has performed in three Royal variety performances and a private audience for the Queen and Royal Family.  As well as starring his own show throughout the World, he has starred in the West End and in touring productions of shows including Grease and most recently the play Bouncers.

All production costs for the record have been met by a business partnership of Cardiff restaurateur and entrepreneur Giovanni Malacrino of Gios restaurants and Avnish Goyal of Hallmark Healthcare.

What Colour is the Wind is available from iTunes, Amazon and from  www.cardiffinstitutefortheblind.co.uk.  Price £3.50 plus p&p.

Staff at Hallmark Healthcare’s Head Office ‘roll out of bed’ to come to work in pyjamas for Children in Need 2009

On Friday 20th November 2009, staff at Head Office came in wearing Pyjamas to support the very worthy cause of Children In Need, also bringing with them a teddy bear each.

From top left: Neetu Aggarwal, Rob Hoy, Sue Earrey, Audrey Greenoff, Mark Sturley, Clair Earrey, Vicki Rogers, Karen Blois, Tiffany Sheehan, Hazel Hennessey, Lisa Williams. Front row: Avnish Goyal, Tracey Mehmet (USB), Jackie Sargeant, Lauren Kellard, Cathrine Robinson.

Staff managed to raise the fantastic amount of £160.24. Within that amount £65.84 was raised by staff, matched with £75.76 donated by the Joint Managing Directors, Ram and Avnish Goyal, helped by a donation of £18.64 from UNICEF who are based in the same building.
Lisa Williams, PA to Avnish Goyal said “staff were in top spirits and a lot of fun was had while remembering the many disadvantaged children across the UK we are helping”.

As a result of the tremendous support the charity receives from supporters countrywide, they are able to continue to fund fantastic projects which aim to help make positive changes to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people right here in the UK.
The 2008 Appeal was a fantastic success raising a record breaking £38 million despite the current economic conditions, which is a real tribute to the generosity and understanding of the nation.

Hallmark Healthcare recently supported Breast Cancer Campaign’s Wear it Pink Day 2009.

Hallmark Healthcare’s Head Office took part in Breast Cancer Campaign’s ‘wear it pink’ day on Friday, 27th October 2006. The whole office wore an item of pink on the day and enjoyed pink food and drinks, they also ran a fun quiz – won by Lauren Kellard and Maxine Tweddle.

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer and one woman in nine will be affected by it during her lifetime in the United Kingdom. The money raised by Hallmark Healthcare from wear it pink will help the Campaign to continue researching the cure for breast cancer.

The total raised on the day was £53.50 and Joint Managing Directors, Avnish and Ram Goyal, generously offered to match this donation giving an overall total donated to the Breast Cancer Campaign of £107.00!
