| Hundreds
of residents, relatives and staff across England and Wales get
together for a giant hug every year as leading healthcare provider,
Hallmark Healthcare, celebrates its annual Hug Day.
The latest Hug Day in 2009 saw a variety of outstanding
efforts to make it another knock out year of celebrations - from
farmyard themes complete with live animals and Hawaiian parties
with grass skirts, mini beaches and paddling pools to 70’s
themes with flares, afro wigs and glitter balls - fun was had
by everyone involved.
The Hug Day concept is the brainchild of Sheena Tipples, a Registered
Nurse at Hallmark’s Regency House care home in Cardiff as
a way to have fun and bring residents and staff even closer together.
Research undertaken by the University of North Carolina, has actually
shown that a hug is good for your health. Not only does it reduce
stress levels, it also reduces blood pressure and the risk of
heart disease. Six years on, Hug Day has become one of the biggest
days in the care calendar year for hundreds of people associated
with Hallmark through a series of carnival-like celebrations.
Avnish and Ram Goyal, co-chairmen of Hallmark Healthcare, were
in agreement when Avnish commented: “We look forward to
Hug Day very much. Warmth and companionship are part and parcel
of great care and this event is a culmination of all our teams’
efforts throughout the year to make our residents feel special.”
