| Every
year the homes in the Hallmark group celebrate ‘Hug Day’
– and this year we’re using it as an opportunity for
Hallmark to Unite Generations.
In recognition of national grandparents day, families
are invited to join their loved one for the day to celebrate with
friends and staff.
The idea came to life when staff at Hallmark Healthcare got together
to think about what would make their homes even more homely for
residents.
Avnish Goyal, Chairman of Hallmark Healthcare explains:
“What we want to show our residents and their relatives
is that we really put the ‘care’ into our care homes.
When we thought of things that are sometimes missing from residential
care, we realised that it was often a lack of real closeness which
people would normally enjoy with their own family and friends.”
The unanimous decision to establish an annual ‘hug
day’ was immediately adopted by all of Hallmark Healthcare’s
homes across the UK.
Hug day is a fun day with the serious message that
older people can feel lonely. This year, each home has a day of
activity planned and staff enter the spirit of the day by dressing
up. Themes range from a traditional beach party to ‘Alice
in Wonderland’ and a VE day celebration. For the more active,
some of our homes have a sports day, including wheelchair racing!
