BEST COMPANIES 2008 – STAR ACCREDITATION
Hallmark Healthcare has for the third year been recognised
as a ‘first-class’ company by The Sunday Times Best
Companies initiative and been awarded star status at its official
accreditation ceremony.

The accreditation initiative recognises and acknowledges corporate
excellence in the workplace and pays particular regard to great
work practices and employee care.
A random selection of Hallmark employees are invited to participate
in the Best Companies survey, which focuses on what the employees
feel about working for the company.
Receiving this accreditation is a great accolade for Hallmark,
who continually work towards creating a great workplace for all

”LETS GET TALKING” by Michael Broughton
A new initiative to stimulate communication among the
elderly and people living with dementia has been developed by
Hallmark Healthcare.
 |
The ‘Lets Get Talking’ initiative, which
is the brainchild of Michael Broughton, Head of Dementia
Care at Hallmark Healthcare, is based on developing a different
topic of conversation for every day of year.
The aim is that the Lets Get Talking will spark memories
and create a feeling of well being amongst residents as
they discuss familiar topics with other residents, family
members, visitors and the Hallmark Healthcare care team.
It also provides some daily fun for the residents as encouraging
conversation with our residents living with dementia and
elderly people in general is very important. |

BUDDING AUTHORS UNCOVERED
Residents at Ty Enfys Care Home have triumphed in the
Eisteddfod writing competition taking first place.
A team of elderly residents at Ty Enfys Care Home were awarded
joint first prize in the over 50’s writing competition organised
by Help the Aged.
The resident’s entry pulled at the heart strings of organisers
as they based their heart-warming entry based on their own individual
experiences and memories.
The residents were encouraged to visualise the skeleton of the
story and the gaps were filled in. The competition allowed the
residents to reminisce about the past which sparked feelings and
memories that they hadn’t experienced for some time. It
was a great tool for communication and interaction between all
the residents involved in the development of the story”.
For those residents who were not involved in the writing, they
had the pleasure and enjoyment of reading a story written by one
of their fellow residents.

SCHOOL CHILDREN ARE BLOOMING LOVELY
Children from Abercanaid Community School in Merthyr
Tydfil have unveiled their blooming marvellous watercolour pictures
at Greenhill Manor Care Home.
|
|
The children (with Ria Davies, Mollie Pullman,
Sonny Murphy all from Year 6 pictured left), have produced
a collection of beautiful watercolour pictures to help illustrate
the names of the twelve wings at Greenhill Manor Care Home.
Jacqueline Farguson, Standards Manager for Hallmark Healthcare,
approached Abercanaid Community School with the idea for
the children to create bright and colourful images to display
around the home. It has also provided the home with an opportunity
to interact with it’s local community which is something
that Hallmark Healthcare feels very strongly about. |
