Elaine Shortt
of Kirkby Manor care home in Kikrby in Ashfield received one of
the most prestigious and sought after accolades at the National
Care Awards this year, highlighting best practise in the care
sector.
Elaine received the award for Care Registered Nurse of the Year
at the National Care Awards 2008, which were held at the glamorous
Hilton London Metropole Hotel in November.
In 2008 the National Care Awards were the biggest and brightest
yet, with more entries than ever before as submissions flocked
in for this year’s special 10th anniversary. Elaine was
chosen from hundreds of applicants and received her award from
well-known actor and TV presenter Tony Robinson, who hosted the
evening.

Elaine said “it was such an honour to be recognised by
the care sector for the work I provide to the residents at my
home. It was a fantastic evening and a wonderful achievement.
I feel extremely proud to be the winner of this national care
award.
This is the second award for Elaine this year, as she was presented
with the Outstanding Performance of the Year award at the Hallmark
Healthcare annual awards in September.
Avnish Goyal, managing director of Hallmark Healthcare, said:
“Elaine is an exceptional member of the team and really
deserves the award for registered nurse of the year. She is always
enthusiastic about her job and is a terrific ambassador for anyone
wanting a career in care.”
The evening consisted of a champagne reception, with additional
entertainment, a gala dinner, the awards ceremony itself and was
followed by after-dinner dancing with a live band and casino.
This year’s event – now celebrating its tenth anniversary
– supported the work of the Alzheimer’s Society, whose
staff and volunteers work together to provide help and information
to people affected by dementia in their communities.
