CARDIFF CARE HOME ENCOURAGES PEOPLE TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT PARKINSON’S

Ty Enfys care home in Cardiff recently supported people with Parkinson’s by marking Parkinson’s Awareness Week and the 40th anniversary of Parkinson’s Disease Society by holding an informative seminar.

Tracey Anderson and Anne-Marie Hawkins from the local Parkinson’s Disease Society gave an informative talk at Ty Enfys in Pentwyn. The guest speakers talked about Parkinson’s Disease, the support available to those living with Parkinson’s and the research that is being carried out to find a cure.

Another guest speaker was David Thomas, who is living with Parkinson’s independently in the community. He talked to the audience about how he copes with the symptoms of Parkinson’s on a daily basis and how the Parkinson’s Disease Society is a great support to him.  David attends a number of seminars across South Wales to help highlight the work of the Parkinson’s Disease Society.

David said, “The Parkinson’s Society offer invaluable support to people like myself, who desire to live independently but occasionally need to talk to someone who understands what you are going through. A lot of people are unaware of the Parkinson’s Disease Society and the work it does in the community for people with Parkinson’s, so it is important to hold seminars like the one at Ty Enfys to help publicise them”.

Julie Emmott, Business Development Director at Ty Enfys said, “Parkinson’s affects one in 500 individuals and 10,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with Parkinson’s every year. Working with the elderly, who are more prone to Parkinson’s, we understand how important it is that people understand the symptoms and how to cope, whether you are the individual yourself, a family member or friend. There was a fantastic turn out on the day and it seems that everyone found our seminar both informative and useful”.

Julie and her team were proud to present Tracey and Anne-Marie with a cheque for £100 that the home had raised prior to the event.
