It
was a right royal affair at a Swindon care home recently as The
Duchess of Cornwall paid a visit.
Her Royal Highness visited Church View care home in St Margaret
on Wednesday 27 January where she took a tour of the newly refurbished
home, met and spoke to the residents and even challenged one resident,
David Rose to a game of bowling on the homes new Wii console system.
During
the 45-minute visit, The Duchess visited resident, Peggy Aucott,
85, who she has been corresponding with for more than 15 years,
following a meeting at the village of Highgrove, where they both
used to reside. She also met and spoke to Denis Gleeson, who helped
to fundraise for the new computer system by undertaking a daring
microlite flight at the end of last year.
Jo
Butler, Home Manager at Church View, said, “We have all
been extremely excited about the visit by The Duchess of Cornwall
and we were honoured that she took time out of her busy schedule
to drop in and see us. She took time to speak to every resident
in the home as she went round and even beat one of our residents
at a game of bowling on the Wii. Everyone was really buzzing after
she left”.
Resident,
Dennis Gleeson said, “It was a real privilege to meet The
Duchess. I have never met a Member of the Royal Family before
so it was all very exciting”.
The Duchess visited the home along
with the Mayor of Swindon, Councillor David Wren, Lord Lieutenant
of Wiltshire, Colonel James Arkell and High Sheriff of Wiltshire,
Mr Robert Floyd. Church View has recently experienced an exciting
refurbishment including new soft furnishings, a home-cinema projector
and an innovative new computer system. The system has been especially
designed for ease
of use by elderly and disabled people and uniquely combines three
console devices that has not been done before, especially in a
care home. The system combines the use of a Nintendo Wii console,
a desktop computer console and a DVD player linked to a projector
system with specially customized features including a keyboard
with large, easy to use keys, a track ball mouse system and touch
screen applications.
Congratulations!
Congratulations
goes to all at Church View on some fantastic coverage following
a visit from The Duchess of Cornwall who organised a visit to
see resident and friend, Peggy Aucott. The Duchess played ten
pin bowling on the Nintendo Wii with residents Dennis Gleeson
and David Rose and said she would go home and tell her husband
“that he has missed a very good party!”
