NEW CARE HOME IN WIMBLEDON
RECEIVES FIVE STAR RATING
The
newly opened, Kew House care home in Wimbledon has been awarded
the top rating for its food hygiene following an inspection from
Environmental Health. Kew House received a five-star rating by the
Foods Standards Agency following an inspection of the home’s
food premises, reflecting its excellent standards of food safety.
The Environmental Health Officer inspects food
premises and awards a star rating based on the food safety conditions
found during the time of inspection. Key areas assessed are; confidence
in management, food hygiene practices and structural compliance.
The scores from this rating are converted to a star rating system
with 5 stars reflecting excellent standards. The
aim of the star ratings is to raise the standards of food safety
for consumers and provide the opportunity for members of the public
to make informed choices about where they eat or buy food, based
on food safety standards.
Home Manager, Peter Donkin said, “I am delighted that Kew
House has received the five-star rating for its food hygiene. It
reflects the high standards that we are proud to promote throughout
the home, from front of house to behind the scenes, and I would
not expect anything less than the best for my residents and staff.
As well as
having exceptionally high food hygiene standards, we serve our residents
their meals in restaurant style dining rooms where they can choose
from a menu of appetising dishes freshly made in the home that day,
by our professional and experienced Head Chef, Howard”.
Howard has 21 years experience in the catering industry and has
worked as head chef in a number of hotels and restaurants across
Europe as well as teaching at the International Hotel School on
the Isle of Man and cooking for royalty when serving in the army.
Howard commented, “I promote strict standards across my kitchen
from the cleanliness of the surfaces to the presentation of each
plate. The menu I create for our residents on a daily basis
is seasonal, based around fresh produce from local suppliers. I
make absolutely everything freshly on a daily basis, including the
bread rolls for breakfast and the pastries for afternoon tea. The
home boasts five-star luxury for its residents and now we have been
certified that our health and safety standards are five-star too”.
