ELDERLY RESIDENT AWARDED HER LAND ARMY SERVICE MEDAL
An 83 years old resident at a Cardiff care home was presented
with her land army medal for services during the 2nd World War
at a 40’s themed tea party on Wednesday 22 October.
The Deputy Leader of Cardiff City Council and Friend of Ty Enfys,
Judith Woodman, presented Meryl Hutching with her medal during
a short ceremony at Ty
Enfys care home in Pentwyn.

Meryl joined the voluntary land army in 1943 at the tender age
of 18 and served until several years after the war ended. Ty Enfys
Home Manager, Teresa Handford commented: "Meryl can fondly
recall her days in the women’s voluntary land army and she
talks about it with a smile on her face".
"Although working in the land army was hard work and long
hours, Meryl talks about the fun she had too and tells us of the
great friends she made. The work of the land army was crucial
to the survival of the British people during the war, so when
the medal arrived for her, we decided to celebrate the acknowledgement
with a party."
Family and friends from around the UK joined staff and residents
at Ty Enfys for a fun filled afternoon of 40’s entertainment,
food, music and reminiscence.
Ty Enfys is a 100 bed care home for the elderly specialising
in personal care, dementia and nursing care. The home has a warm
and friendly environment created by the welcoming staff members,
cosy lounges and beautifully decorated corridors and bedrooms.
The home also has state of the art facilities including a cinema
room, hairdressing salon and a therapy room.
