Merthyr Tydfil care home in pioneering project
My Home Life Wales “will benefit residents, relatives and
staff”
A MERTHYR TYDFIL care home is taking part in a unique
all-Wales programme to improve the lives of people in care homes.
Greenhill
Manor Care Home is involved in the ‘My Home Life Wales’
programme.
Wendy Sayers from Greenhill Manor says: "My Home Life Wales
aims to make sure that living, visiting or working in a care home
is an enjoyable experience. Greenhill Manor Care Home prides itself
on creating an environment where residents truly feel at home
and their relatives know that their family members are receiving
the best care available. We’re going to be sharing our ideas
with the My Home Life Wales programme about the things that we
do at Greenhill Manor Care Home to make life special for our residents,
their relatives and the staff who work here."
Merged charity Age Concern Cymru and Help the Aged in Wales is
running My Home Life Wales. Programme manager John Moore explains:"We’re
very glad to be working with Greenhill Manor Care Home on this
exciting project. My Home Life Wales will work with care home
residents, their relatives and staff to identify and share ideas
that make life better for people who live in, visit or work in
care homes across Wales. These can be very simple and straightforward
ideas or complex innovations but the aim will be the same –
improving people’s day-to-day lives in care homes. My Home
Life Wales will share the wealth of knowledge and information
provided by Greenhill Manor Care Home to benefit as many people
as possible in care homes across Wales.”
The Welsh Assembly Government’s Health Challenge Wales is
funding My Home Life Wales. Deputy Minister for Social Services
Gwenda Thomas says of My Home Life Wales: "Wales has always
led the field with programmes that benefit older people, such
as the Welsh Assembly Government’s Strategy for Older People
in Wales, and My Home Life Wales is another innovative project
that will really make a difference to so many people across the
country. This is an exciting project that at its heart is a clear
vision of how we can improve the lives of care home residents
and staff. The Welsh Assembly Government fully supports the programme’s
ethos of involving care home residents in meaningful activities
and decisions that affect them as well as the programme’s
emphasis on recognising the importance and value of the work done
by care home staff."
