New Group MD to lead expansion at Hallmark

Hallmark Healthcare has appointed a new Group Managing Director to strengthen its senior management team.

Martyn Ward – who has advised Hallmark over the last 18 months as a non-executive director – has taken up the reins as Group MD this month to help lead the company’s expansion programme.

Martyn has held Managing Director roles in international sales, business development and consultancies. He has a breadth of experience in the technology market, including telecommunications and manufacturing. Outside these sectors, Martyn has owned businesses in the hospitality market and worked in property management/development. More recently he has advised companies with an ethical dimension regarding scalability strategies. He is an avid supporter of children’s charities and seeks to enrol individuals and companies into participating in this worthwhile endeavour. He believes the new position promises some great opportunities.

He said: “My role offers a unique chance to be involved in an ethical company with massive potential to make a positive impact on the lives of others. I will be responsible for the Hallmark nursing and residential homes, as well as our Clearwater homes, which provide care for younger people with learning disabilities. My objectives are to maintain our very special company culture, while developing a disciplined approach to delivery of outstanding care experiences. It is an exciting time to join, with our expansion plan well under way and the opening of two state of the art homes in Cardiff and Merthyr Tydfil later this year.”

For Avnish and Ram Goyal, now Chairman and Co-Chairman, Martyn’s appointment represents an important step forward for the business. Avnish said: “Over the last 18 months, Martyn has made a huge difference to Hallmark Healthcare. His knowledge, experience and vision have allowed us to accelerate our strategy to become one of the UK’s foremost providers of care. I look forward to having him on board in his new capacity as Group MD.”

Currently Hallmark Healthcare has 1,370 beds in 23 care homes across England and Wales. The company is investing £300m over the next five years in its new build development programme. Along with its strategy of acquiring good quality care homes, this will see its bed capacity increase to 5,000 by 2010.

In 2006, the company was recognised as one of the top 100 best companies to work for by the Sunday Times. This year, it was awarded first class status by the Best Companies Initiative.
